In recent years, political change in South Africahas resulted in major policy changes in all spheres of the country’s social and economic life. This process of transformation has created a need for a considerable increase in personnel trained in the analysis of social and economic issues and policies. The purpose of the Social Policy Programme is to equip graduates and professionals with knowledge and skills necessary for social policy analysis and development management. It is also aimed at those in responsible positions in public service, NGOs and other development institutions that are committed to meet the challenge of managing change in South Africa, in the broader southern African region and beyond.
The School of Social Sciences invites applications from those who are in possession of an honours or equivalent degree from a recognised tertiary institution for the masters by coursework programme in Social Policy commencing in 2014. The programme will be offered on a one year fulltime basis for 2014. Those who possess a strong honours or equivalent degree may be considered for the masters by research programme. A PhD programme is also available for those who already possess a masters degree in Social Policy or in a cognate discipline. Ideally applicants should possess a credit weighted average of above 60 percent for their degrees honours or equivalent degree.
